Why was Anghiari chosen as the home base for the Excursion Days in An Adventure in Tuscany?

Beppino, the friendly Tuscan wolfI fell in love with the medieval village of Anghiari the first time I came here to paint, six years ago and, as an artist, I could not resist coming back and discovering more of the natural, unspoiled beauty, charm, history and art. I love the local people, their smiles and the non-commercial way they treat visitors, not as tourists as we are treated in most places in the world, but as guests or old friends as if we have been here before. I cannot satisfy in one lifetime all the unpainted landscapes yet here for me to paint. And finally, I met Giuseppe who has a love and passion for Anghiari and wanted to write about it – so together we decided to share these excursions, through paintings and The Legend of the Friendly Tuscan Wolf. So here they are – in a book with a CD, just for you.

Anghiari is a medieval village situated on top of a hill in the wild, unspoiled countryside of Tuscany. The hill and slopes of Anghiari flank the west side of the Upper Tiber Valley and Apennine Mountains. The medieval quarter of the village is preserved intact and in the Middle Ages a square (now Piazza Baldaccio) and a steep Roman road  (now Corso Matteotti which becomes Via della Battaglia) were built from the top of the village to the next village of Sansepolcro. These are a few of the reasons Anghiari was chosen. Come, enjoy a journey of discovery with us through this book, An Adventure in Tuscany.

Guiseppe Dini and Dawn Angela
Dawn Angela was born in Yorkshire, England, and educated in South Africa. Her early passion for art led her to become creative director of her graphic design studios in Johannesburg and Toronto, but her love of painting motivated her to abandon the computer and pick up a brush and palette, and today she is dedicated to painting and teaching adults and children to love art. She is an art tour facilitator, taking artists to destinations such as Anghiari, on her Artist’s Get-Away to Tuscany.

After her series of paintings A World of Architecture, and A World of Vineyards were published, she began a new series, on-location in Tuscany for a self-guided tour that she wanted to publish. So began An Adventure in Tuscany, with sixteen excursions from the medieval village of Anghiari, illustrated with fine art paintings.

Co-author Giuseppe Dini,  lives in Anghiari, and he also wanted to write a book on his beloved Tuscany. Together they have written An Adventure in Tuscany with The Legend of Beppino, the Friendly Tuscan Wolf which shares Giuseppe’s life story as a young boy and his experiences growing up in Anghiari which complement each of the daily excursions  - charming for both children and adults.

An Adventure in Tuscany was, and is, a journey of discovery. It’s a journey you won’t want to miss!

Giuseppe Dini was born in Anghiari in the province of Arezzo. As a child he could be found working, and occasionally running wild, playing in the beautiful Italian countryside. As a young boy, he helped his large family to survive. His protective nature and survival instincts reflected the character of a little wolf – a friendly one.
With a friend, Canadian jazz musician Elmer Gill, Giuseppe helped restore an historic country house.  Gill fell in love with Anghiari, told his friends and soon they were arriving from everywhere. Giuseppe has dedicated his life to making a difference in Anghiari, particularly encouraging tourism. He teaches visitors to enjoy the slower pace of life while staying in 17th century country houses in a beautiful, medieval setting. Humble beginnings for Giuseppe, but with his love of art, history and the countryside, hundreds of tourists now flock to this part of Tuscany, bringing friends, making friends, and enjoying a home away from home.

Giuseppe now shares stories of his beloved Anghiari and memories of his childhood in An Adventure in Tuscany, told as parables in The Legend of Beppino, the Friendly Tuscan Wolf.

Giuseppe Dini invites you to come and discover the natural beauty, art and kindness of this incredible medieval treasure of Anghiari.
